Motor Elevated Work Platform Training

This is a blended course offering General Training on multiple pieces of equipment followed by familiarization with specific models prior to use and a documented Practical Evaluation to ensure competency to the certification requirements.  General Training (4 hours)

Students will become familiar with the general instructions for operators regarding inspection, application and operation of AWP equipment, including recognition and avoidance of hazards associated with their use as covered in ANSI/SIA Standards A92.3, A92.5 and A92.6.  These practices include:

  • Operation of the aerial platform, under supervision of qualified person, for a specific period to demonstrate proficiency
  • Regulations and Standards
  • Perform workplace inspections
  • Recognition and avoidance of common hazards
  • Operator warnings and instructions
  • Purpose and use of Manuals
  • Pre-start Inspection
  • Factors affecting stability
  • PPE including Fall protection
  • General Equipment Components
  • Safe use of Equipment
  • Proper selection of AWP for work to be performed
  • The application and understanding of typical options that are associated with larger machines.

Familiarization Training

Familiarization training includes a review of the following:

  • Identify location of the weather resistant compartment storage (for manual)
  • Confirm manuals as specified for the manufacturer are on the AWP
  • Review control functions
  • Review safety devices specific to the model aerial platform being operated

Practical Evaluation (Length: 1 hour or less depending on number of students)

  • Visual Inspection
  • Operation Checks
  • Basic Operating Procedures
  • General Safety

The successful participant will receive a wallet sized, laminated Aerial Work Platform Certification Card valid for a period of three years.
